  • Each OK-W-4 allowance lowers yearly withheld wages by $1,000. Thresholds shown are for a yearly payroll after allowances; per-paycheck tables apply the same rates.

From 2026 Oklahoma taxes income at 2.5%, 3.5% and 4.5%, with the top rate starting above $7,200 of taxable income for single filers and $14,400 for married couples filing jointly. Employers withhold with tables for each pay period: they subtract an allowance amount for each OK-W-4 allowance, $1,000 a year or $38.46 on a bi-weekly check, then apply the single or married table. No Oklahoma city or county taxes wages.

The tables build in Oklahoma's standard deduction, $6,350 for single filers and $12,700 for married couples, so lower-paid workers have nothing withheld. We treat 401(k), Section 125 health insurance, HSA and FSA deductions as lowering Oklahoma wages, as they do federally, while we confirm the state's rule.

Single, married, and the single-rate box

The OK-W-4 has only Single and Married boxes, so heads of household are withheld on the single table. Married couples who both work can tick "Married, but withhold at higher Single rate", because Oklahoma taxes married couples on combined income and the married table often withholds too little for two earners.

Things to know about Oklahoma paychecks

Federal taxes on every paycheck

Every US paycheck has the same three federal deductions, whichever state you work in. Together, Social Security and Medicare are called FICA (Federal Insurance Contributions Act) taxes.

  • Federal income tax withholding. Withholding is tax your employer takes out of each paycheck and sends to the IRS on your behalf. The amount depends on your pay and your Form W-4, using the IRS method in Publication 15-T. It is an estimate of your yearly tax; you settle the difference when you file your return.
  • Social Security. 6.2% of your wages, up to the wage base of $184,500 for the year. The wage base is the most pay that Social Security tax applies to.
  • Medicare. 1.45% of all your wages, with no limit. Once your pay from one employer passes $200,000 in a year, your employer also withholds an extra 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax on the amount above it.

Ways to change your paycheck

To change Oklahoma withholding, give your employer a new Form OK-W-4. You claim 1 allowance for yourself, 1 for a spouse who doesn't work, 1 per dependent, and more if you itemize or have state credits. Line 6 lets you ask for an extra amount each paycheck.

If you have more than one job, claim fewer or no allowances at the jobs other than your main one so withholding comes closer to your total tax.

  • Update your Form W-4. Claiming dependents, checking the Step 2 box or asking for extra withholding changes how much federal tax comes out of each paycheck. The IRS Tax Withholding Estimator can help you fill it in.
  • Pre-tax deductions. Money you put into a traditional 401(k), an HSA or employer health insurance comes out before federal income tax, so your take-home pay drops by less than the amount you save.
  • Bonuses. Employers often withhold federal tax on a bonus paid separately at a flat rate. Add a bonus under More options to see it.
